My friends and I frequent a diner here in South/Central New Jersey called Mastoris'. They have a pretty nice drink menu, but one in particular has become a favorite of ours: the Pixy Stix Martini. I've inquired a few times for the exact recipe, but haven't had much luck in convincing them. I've searched the internet, but though I've found many drinks called "pixy stick" or "blue pixy stick" none of them are even close.
The drink in question is served in a martini glass and has a VERY light purple tint. It's translucent, not cloudy and has a light grape flavor mixed with some other berry taste I can't quite identify.
I've experimented on my own and the closest I've come so far is this:
2 oz. Three Olives Grape Vodka
1/2 oz. Blue Curacao
1/2 oz. Grenadine
Splash of Club Soda
The flavor is close, but too grape. The color is a bit too dark. I've tried the drink with straight vodka and grape pucker, but the resulting flavor is way off. My drink is closer, but it looks wrong and if I reduce the amount of Blue Curacao and Grenadine I put in the mix, the flavor is lost completely.
Help! Has anyone had this martini before or one like it? Does anyone with more bar experience than myself have any suggestions for alternate recipes that could work? Thanks in advance!
