Obviously we know what the majority of our users love by our voting system, but what is YOUR absolute favorite drink based on taste only?
Mine would have to be a nicely made rootbeer float...mmmm mmmm good.
RootBeer Float (http://www.drinksmixer.com/drink7538.html) (I use whaler's vanilla rum!)
Godiva Chocolate martini.. there's a recipe on the site but hell, it's damn nice.
Kinda sickly, but have one to start yourself off, and the rest won't matter..

Mojito recipe. I use Monin Mojito mint syrup. I put a slice of lime and fresh mint leaves in the bottom of a glass and mash them together with the rum. I add the same amount of the Monin syrup as rum ( about 1 1/2 oz) add ice and top off with club soda. I love the syrup because you can have a Mojito even if you don't have any fresh mint on hand.

Definately the Irish Car Bomb - when made correct it tastes just like a root beer float!

Not necessarily my absolute favorite, one that I haven't seen on here that I've made before is a derivative of the Buttery Nipple, called the Irish Tit (I hope that word is allowed on here LOL). Got the recipe from a local free weekly newspaper.
Equal parts Jameson's, Bailey's and ButterShots, in small or copious quantities, straight up as a shot, or on the rocks. I like an ounce of each shaken together and strained on the rocks. Yummmmmm.

All good stuff, but I learned a lesson while working at God's Waiting Room (aka, a very expensive private club). The lesson is:
If you are under 40, your mother can probably out drink you.
I'm not talking quantity. Sure, granny isn't going to be doing ripcords of Natty Bo Pounders, or slamming down an Irish Car Bomb. But, old people drink drinks that tastle like alcohol.
While bartending for these old coots, my first night I kept having to refer back to Mr. Boston's 1953 edition as they laid old-skool drinks on me that would make my generation choke. Rusty Nails, Perfect Manhattans, Stingers, and Gibsons. WTF? I read about them in bartending folk lore... but they do exist.
The under 40 crowd grew up on the marketing of Vodka, Zima, Bartles & Jaymes, etc. Drinks that don't taste like booze. Hell, the names say the whole thing: Sex on the Beach, L.I. Iced Tea, etc.
Feh. My favorite drink to make?
Crown Royal Manhattan, Up, Rocks on the side. Even your most arrogant hotel bartenders will give you a nod of appreciation when you order this classic.
(but, I drink PBR in my basement)

Just pick half dozen of fresh mint leaves ad 2 tsp of sugar (I use a mix 1/3 cristal sugar 2/3 light powder mascavado sugar) and the juice of 1 lime. Just squeeze all the ingredients (you can do so with the back of a mixing spoon). Ad 1 1/2 oz. of light rum (you can use also añejo) and just a dash of cointreau (ok, ok, I made it up but I do think it makes a better mix). Ad some small/medium size ice cubes and stir all toghether. Fill it up with soda water. Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint and a slice of lime. Hope you like it

that recipe sounds good.
most bars "cheat". they substitute good rum for well rum. Granulated sugar instead of powdered, or ...gasp... premixed mint syrup instead of mint leaves and sugar. Made well, the Mojito is hard to beat on a hot day. Made half-assed, you'll want your $5 back.

I wish I could use claim this wisdom as my own... yet, I must quote my sources. I'm a regular on FARK.com, and a Philly Bartender named DarthBrooks also is Crown Royal Manhattan fan. This post below is from his profile, and really hits the nail on the head as far as Cosmo Drinkers and Sex on the Beach Drinkers go. So, Hats off to you Darth, for this wisdom:
Most Hated Drink to Make:
http://www.tasteline.com/document/files/tl_cosmopolitan_222.jpgThe Cosmopolitan. You are a complete idiot if you order this drink, as it shows you know absolutely *nothing* about what to order at a bar. Oh, and your boyfriend probably laughs at you when you're not around. Plus, he's cheating on you. So you'd better order a whole pitcher of Cosmos, baby.
http://www.festaloss.com/bilder/drinkar/sexonthebeach_s.jpgSecond Most-Hated Drink to Make:
Sex on the Beach. You're a bleached-blonde 25-year-old girl, and you first ordered this drink when you were 21 and all your college girlfriends told you to order it. You haven't the slightest idea what's in it (vodka, Chambord, Midori, sour mix, and pineapple juice) but you keep ordering it because you don't know the name of any other drink. You'll keep drinking it until you're 30 and you realize that none of those guys you've dated the past ten years are ever going to marry you. Then, you'll switch to Cosmopolitans. (see above).
http://www.drinkinghabits.com/images/manhattan.jpgImpress-Your-Bartender Drink:
Crown Royal Manhattan, Rocks on the Side. You'll make your bartender think you really know what you're talking about if you order this drink. The premier Canadian whiskey, coupled with sweet vermouth, is rarely ordered, but definitely something that your bartender will nod his head and smile when you order it. Getting "rocks on the side" means you know better than to waste the liquor that's still clinging to the cubes. Remember *not* to eat the cherry - - it's for taste, not for an appetizer.
By popular demand, here's the lowdown on making a Crown Royal Manhattan at home!
First, rent "The Big Sleep" with Humphrey Bogart on DVD.
Fill a pint glass with ice.
Fill a martini glass with ice.
Take 1.5 oz (turn the bottle upside-down for 4 seconds) of Crown Royal and pour it in the pint glass.
Take 0.5 oz (turn the bottle upside-down for 1 second) of Martini & Rossi SWEET Vermouth and pour it in the pint glass.
Take a bar spoon (if you don't have one, get one) and stir briskly for 30 FULL seconds.
Toss the ice out of the martini glass.
Put a bar strainer (if you don't have one, get one) on top of the pint glass and pour the contents into the martini glass. The martini glass should be filled to a distance one-half the width of your pinkie fingernail from the rim.
Do NOT toss out the ice in the pint glass. Instead, pour the whole thing into a rocks glass. You can suck on the cubes later.
Drop a cherry into the martini glass.
Turn on "The Big Sleep" and drink your Manhattan. It should last you until the part with Bogart asking about the Ben-Hur misprint in the bookstore. Continue with the rocks glass, which should take you through to Bacall's nightclub number. Pause the DVD and make another CR Manhattan.
That's livin', chum.
How can someone be a complete idiot for ordering a drink...
Not speaking to you personally, but if you look down on people for the type of drink they order, something is wrong elsewhere in your life...
And there is nothing wrong with offering suggestions and attempting to educate customers without sneering when their back is turned. I would say that is far from wisdom.

I'm just relaying his opinions.. but I do find some truth in most stereotypes.
When I see a jack-ass come in with his collar popped with his buddies, I know 4 shots of jager are on the way. But, I have a 65 yr old lawyer that sips jager as well. So, I won't say ALL Jager drinkers are immature idiots... but, a good portion. :)
But, yes. I do educate. Especially with wine, when someone asks for White Zin, I reply "Would you like to try a Reisling?" and I give them a sample. Most people only drink what they know, and most bartenders don't take the time to show them that there is a whole world of great tastes out there.

Mine would be a Peter Pan. I brought it back from my honeymoon on St. Lucia (modified), and can only be made with a peanut rum punch that is manufactured there (I brought home a bottle, and my parents picked up another one for me since then). The bartenders there never measured, so what they actually did is a guess.
Sandals version:
In a blender
ice
pina colada mix
banana
1 oz really Strong white rum
1 oz Nuts N Rum Peanut Rum Punch
My version:
In a blender
ice - half full
low-fat vanilla ice cream - 1 scoop per person
banana 1/3-1/2 per person
1/2 oz vanilla rum per person
1 oz Nuts N Rum per person
If I feel like it, 1/2 oz banana rum per person and/or 1/2 oz Bailey's per person
and/or scoop of creamy peanut butter
I know it's girly, but that's okay by me!

Speaking of orange liqueurs, and triple sec in particular, I've found the Hiram Walker triple sec to be the best triple sec out there.
I used to be a DeKuyper TS enthusiast until I saw a short bartending presentation on one of the food channels. The guy doing the video was using HW triple sec, calling it by far the best "bang for the buck" out there.
Next trip to the liquor store, I picked up a liter for like $8.99. And the kicker, this stuff ain't "sugar water" like some other similar products - at 60 proof, it holds it own very well and compares somewhat favorably to Cointreau and Grand Marnier - nothing beats those two in my book - but when looking for a good triple sec to fill out the bar, I heartily recommend the Hiram Walker. :)

I think educating clients is a must on every bartender's daily life. Most of the people don't know the amount of options they can get out of drink's. Many of them don't even know what are the options when we talk about mixing drinks. I do have a very good example about Port Wine. I'm bartending on a hotel in V N Gaia (this is the town where most of the Port Wine companies have their cellars). Most of the foreigners do ask for Port Wine (when they do this around they normally get the chippest port). I do rarelly serve them the basic one. At least they drink a LBV or a 10 years old Tawny and in many occasions they do drink a Vintage or a 20/30 years old Tawny. And it only takes a couple of minutes to explain what are the majors differences between them.

Newbie Here... I would have to say my favorite right now would be a Frozen Mango Margarita. I prefer fresh, juicy mango's over the bar mix stuff. Then just Tequila, and triple sec. No salt, no sugar...Jay

I just happened to stumble upon this site and thought I'd share my new favorite concoction with ya'll. There's this new juice on the market made by juicy juice called Harvest Surprise and it makes an awesome mixer.
Fill Shaker Halfway with Ice
Add 1/2 c. of Orange Mango Harvest Surprise
Add 1/4 c. of Bacardi Watermelon Rum
Shake
Pour into glass
Top with 1/2 c. of vanilla seltzer
Try it out and let me know what you think.

I love my Blue Hawiians, but I think my current fav. is the Red Sox & Red Sox Revenge. I made them specifically for a trip I recently took to....Orlando, of all places. (Okay, raise your hand, how many thought I was going to say Boston?) LOL
Slamming 4 of them and hour for 9 hours straight and coming out totally sober (even with having 4 drinks in front of me at one time at various points throughout the night), it's not the most potent thing out there, but it tastes great, catering to those who like the fruity flavored stuff.

My favorite drink to make has always been the 'bama slammer - It's relatively complex to make, easy to remember how to make(VASSO - vodka, amaretto, sloe gin, SoCo + O.J.), it serves as both a shot and a cocktail (Though many could argue that every cocktail can be served as a shot) and a person ordering this drink tends to be both knowledgeable and a tad alcoholic and they know how to hide their alcoholic side a bit by staying away from the biggest red flag - L.I.T.
My least favorite cocktail to make would have to be anything requiring blending or worse yet... Anything utilizing the use of the dreaded OASIS machine. Anybody having used this gargantuan waste of time and resources knows exactly what I'm talking about.
As for stereotypes, I agree that many people truly are what they drink, and there's nothing wrong with snickering a bit when the masculine guy sitting at the end of the bar, who has been making passes at my girlfriend for the past 2 hours, orders his third 'Sweet-tart on the rocks(as a drink not a shot). I'm just sayin'

Just rememeber you saw it here first! I finally found the perfect shot of tequila. I invented it last weekend. I'ts called the seahawk double shot 1 shot of tarantula azul (blue) and one shot of tarantula plata (silver) combined or if you prefer just mix one shot 1/2 and 1/2 I think it's perfect. I tried it on one of my friends and all he could say is wow thats dangerous! Roger Wilcox

Here is one of my favorite cocktail recipes. And my friends always want me to make it for them. Check it out and try it for yourself.
A Rose By Any Name
For this cocktail, you’ll need a large martini glass -- one that can hold at least ten fluid ounces.
Shake all the ingredients, strain, and pour into the chilled glass. Pour the red wine last.
Garnish the drink with a single rose petal.
Lightly place the rose petal on the drink so that it floats.
Ingredients:
• 110 ml of Remy Martin cognac
• 22 ml of vermouth (dry variant)
• 22 ml of cream of mint pastille
• 22 ml of fresh orange juice
• 22 ml of grenadine syrup
• 33 ml of water
• 11 ml of red wine
