now...from seemingly constant criticism from my friends, it seems i don't usually drink "manly drinks"...this doesn't bother me, and i will continue to drink the drinks that i like however this makes me wonder what exactly qualifies as a "manly drink"....
some say if its not a shot or a beer its not a manly drink...now i realize that a Fuzzy Navel would probably fall under the girly drink category, but there has to be other guy drinks out there besides shots and beer....so if you have any drinks that you think qualify...or if you think you know what the qualifications are please give your input :D

The Stiletto (As in the dagger (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stiletto) that the heel and this drink are named after... man-ly enough?)
2oz Good Bourbon
1oz Amaretto
1oz Lime Juice
Pour into shaker with ice
Shake and strain into a chilled cocktail glass
Garnish with a lime.

Good bourbon on the rocks - Woodford Reserve or Maker's Mark - is about as "manly" as I go. A close second would be Drambuie on the rocks.

If loving a Fuzzy Navel is wrong, I don't wanna be right!
I'll sip a bourbon or scotch on the rocks with anyone, and I can take a 42 oz Margarita like nobody's business. But where fruity drinks or "light" drinks are concerned, I say, If it tastes good...
DRINK UP.
If I drank only to get drunk, I wouldn't be mixing drinks. There are more efficient methods.

I honestly think it's entirely up to the person drinking, and more then often your friends are just idiots who don't know what the art of mixing drinks is all about. But most people view it as the easier it is to drink, the more girly it is.
Usually what guys think of as a manly drink around here besides shots, are drinks like Crown N Coke/Jack N coke, etc..and the more alcohol the manlier it is. I personally think it's all a bunch of BS, and like I said before your friends simply don't know what they are talking about.

i like my beer the best probually. i also like screwdrivers, liquid cocaine, whisky sours, etc.
That four horsemen shot doesn't sound too terrible (I've had nights where I've taken straight shots of 151, Everclear, and/or Devil's Spring, not something I recommend, so this shouldn't be too bad). Outside of a cold brew, I don't think there are "manly" drinks. The whole macho man issue I hear alot comes up when you're just trying to get housed; in that case, you gotta take straight shots of whatever you're alcohol you're drinking like a man aka NO chasing after the shot, which is seen as girly/feminine.
oh yeah....liquid cocaine is definitely a quality shot, and will definitely "get you there" fast.

ok but....im saying what if the point is not to get drunk, the point is to mix and drink....so some of you maintian that you cannot have a manly drink without the point of drinking it is to get you closer to inebriation

ok, well even if i am not drinking to get really DRUNK i will still sip a whiskey and water. Maybe even a grand marnier on the rocks as its a cognac, but considered a liquer because its flavored with orange, which also makes it incredibly smooth

hmmm what exactly would the water be for....ive heard of water being added to drinks, so what is it for, are you trying to dilute it so its not as strong, and you can taste the flavor of the liquor without it being overwhelming???

I agree! Sometimes all you can do is laugh, because there's no logic to it.
I was out with friends last week, and a guy at the next table decided to comment on my "girly" drink, contrasting it to his "real" drink. I was drinking a dirty martini, he was drinking a light beer. Puh-leeze....

hahahahh wow....now that is stupid, i mean come on...first off, why even bother insulting someone else about their drink (unless of course they are your friends, like me) secondly, i don't even think i could drink a dirty martini...i haven't tried one but the only vodka that ive tasted (which hasn't been very many) that i could see myself possibly enjoying the taste of is gray goose, and the only gin would be Tanqueray No. 10...and lastly i mean beer, really? anyone can drink a beer, at least you have some class and can order something a little more sophisticated...

Can't go wrong with a Grateful Dead. Nice colors, sweet taste and strong. 2 and you're caught up.

funny thing (this topic), I came to this site for Jack Daniels recipes and found the "shaved pussy" made one for the wife tonight, she asked what it was and I said just try it and she loved it!
When I told her what it was she nearly fell off her chair laughing!....then asked for another! By the way I liked it too...made myself one a few minutes ago.
Nothing like walking into a bar and yelling out to the bartender "I'd like a shaved pussy!" that's gonna be funny!

Well, obviously a vodka martini, don't think it gets more manlier than that

I'm partial to 7 and 7's. Just get some whiskey and 7up and a glass full of ice.
Don't worry about looking manly though. Do you think a girl seeing you drinking something really hard and disgusting is going to be impressed? I doubt it. But if you have a drink that looks appealing to a girl, she might be curious what it is and ask you and ask to try it, which opens other avenues of conversation.
I've done enough drinking of various crap in front of my friends that they have no reason to question my manliness when it comes to drinks. I think that drinking whatever you want to drink and not giving a damn what other people think is way more manly than any individual recipe.

Any type of whiskey and coffee is the most manly drink I can think of.
A good gin martini or Manhattan is fairly masculine as well.

I have seen this conversation occurring quite frequently within online communities. It is totally personal preference but usually you will find the common consensus to be Whiskey is the stereotypical manly drink. Personally i don't think it matters as long as you enjoy the product at the end fo the day. Gin and Tonic for me is the standard bar drink. Over rocks with a lime and you cant beat that.

I think as long as your ordering something that isn't really flavorful then its "manly". My boyfriend always gets just a rye and coke, vodka and coke, etc. Something simple. I honestly can't see a problem with a guy drinking whatever he wants....BUT if you want to look manly, keep it simple!

tequila will turn you into an idiot & stupidity knows no bounds or genders.....so, I would say its an either/or type of drink.
Margarita on the rocks = manly
Frozen Margarita when not on a cruise = girly

hasn't been any activity for a little so I thought I'd throw another manly option out there
would you consider a margarita a manly drink, girly drink, or a good middle ground?
followup question, what if it's blended and not over the rocks? though blended doesn't look as manly, I find it quite enjoyable like an alcoholic slushy.

the drinks sounds pretty dope, but for me, I would go for screwdriver, cape cod, and/ or maybe couple of jack and coke, can't handle anymore than that, since I'm pretty much a light weight =\

I prefer my scotch on the rocks. If I have good tips that night I'll go with a higher end scotch.
