I'm just getting into the whole mixology scene and I had a question about mojito's. I must say the ingredients in the mojito make it sound like an amazing drink, but I tried making one and honestly the fresh mint tasted awful! am I missing something here, is one type of mint better than another?

last month i made this one at home and used fresh green mint leaves.
three leaves i crushed with a fork and rubbed it all over the inside of the glass for the aroma/flavour and for garnish you add a whole sprig in the glass

I have a spearmint patch alongside my house. As a perennial, it doesn't go away, keeps coming back every year. And it spreads like wildfire.
I started with just a couple 3" pots for 2 bucks each at a local nursery. I now have about 10 sq. ft. of mint growing just outside the door.
Makes for a great source not only for juleps and mojitos, but any food or drink recipe calling for fresh mint. Example - I use a muddler and mint leaves in apple jelly to make mint jelly to accompany lamb dishes. Tastes fresher and stronger than commercially made mint jelly.
