I am turning 21 in about 2 weeks from now (the 19th.) I have been drinking since I was in high school, a few years it was more frequent than others, but needless to say I am not going to be in for any surprise at the taste of a cold beer or anything like that..Ive spoiled that experience a long time ago.

I want to pick a decent night of drinking out...I am tired of the dirty thirties of Natty...and want to step out of my regular Jack and Coke. Anytime I meander my way into the bar, I keep my orders simple..but being legal, I want to drink the good drink. I know the taste of thick ales, Ive had myself an assortment of beers..but Id like to get some ideas on what I should make my official first beer and shot for the first night at age 21..I have the rest of my life to experiment around, just going to keep it simple with something thats going to be memorable and, well, tasty.

Lay it on me.

Try a Guinness with a shot of Bushmills Black. You will not be disappointed!

I second that. At least the Guinness. There is no better beer (stout) in the world! As for Bushmills, yeah sure. It's a good whiskey. But if you want the best of the best, go for Middleton. It doesn't get any better. At least not in a regular bar... :) But as long as the whiskey is Irish you really can't go wrong.

An alternative to a whiskey is rum. My favorite so far is Bacardi 8. Served on the rocks ofc, and if you smoke - try to get your hands on a Backgammon cigar.

If you want a good ale I'd say Smithwicks is the best. That is, if you can get your hands on it. As far as I know it's only available on Ireland. Kilkenny is a good substitution.

Largers are too similar or regular for me to have a clear number one, but Heineken is defo among the top 10. Not sure about pilsners.

If you want to try some cocktails you should familiarize yourself with some of the classics like (strawberry) daiquiri and mojito.

Whatever you end up with - enjoy it and remember to drink responsibly.

Smithwick's is really good! If you look, youk should be able to find it. I know in my area, even most grocery stores sell it. Another good ale is Boddingtons. I have never tried Middletons, I will have to look for it.

i'm no beer expert but some liquors you might enjoy straight up or on the rocks include beefeater or bombay sapphire gin, or bacardi 8 rum. happy birthday.
